Pharmacy Services. Patient centred: medicines focused

We are seeking a qualified pharmacist to join our hospital pharmacy service in Ashburton. This is a non-rotational role in a rural hospital setting, offering variety, responsibility and the opportunity to develop a broad scope of practice.

Based at a single site, you will be involved across many aspects of hospital pharmacy rather than a narrow specialist area. The role suits a pharmacist who enjoys being hands-on, adaptable and clinically engaged within a small service.

You will work closely with a local team on site and will also be part of the wider Canterbury pharmacy service, alongside pharmacists, technicians, assistants and administrative staff. The team works collaboratively with clinical services to deliver safe, patient-centred medicines care.

We actively support pharmacist development at all stages of practice. Ongoing education, training opportunities and peer support are built into the role. Hospital experience is welcomed but not essential, and pharmacists transitioning from other settings will be well supported.

Ashburton offers an excellent lifestyle, with easy access to outdoor recreation and the wider Canterbury region, while maintaining strong community connections. It is well suited to both individuals and families seeking balance between work and life.

We are looking for a pharmacist who is motivated, collaborative and keen to grow their skills in a supportive rural hospital environment. If you bring curiosity, professionalism and a commitment to patient care, we would value hearing from you.

Key tasks include:

  • provision of a full clinical pharmacy service including medication reconciliation, therapeutic drug monitoring and answering medicines information enquiries
  • involvement in interdisciplinary education
  • supervision, training and support of technicians, interns and students
  • medication supply including dispensing, sterile and cytotoxic ordering.

About you

You will be a qualified pharmacist who is New Zealand registered or has the ability to obtain a New Zealand Annual Practicing Certificate.

You will also demonstrate the following:

  • Hospital experience preferred but not essential
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Adaptable to changing team environments
  • Demonstrates a positive learning mindset
