Grant Criteria
-
Grants are open to Ordinary (both technicians and pharmacists), Life and Intern members. The following membership categories are not eligible for grants: Associate, Honorary, Student and Corporate as per Membership Benefits guide.
-
The grants are about personal development in the applicants’ role, which will have an improvement on their practice and a positive impact for patients and the workplace. Applicants need to demonstrate clearly how the event will support them in their current role and how the profession and NZHPA will benefit.
-
The intention is not to award grants for attendance at our events, the only exception being the Technician grants. In general the range of educational events for pharmacy technicians to attend- is limited compared to Pharmacists, which means that their access to NZHPA grants is inequitable. The introduction of the following grants aims to address this in some way:
-
Tech SIG Symposium Attendance grant
-
Technician NZHPA Conference Attendance grant
-
-
Funding requests from applicants who have not previously received funding are given a higher priority, all else being equal e.g. a robust and worthy application.
-
We don’t usually award to the same person in the same 12 month grant period (see individual grant for specific grant period), with the exception of funding towards PG papers
-
Grant applications are reviewed at executive meetings at the frequency stated in the individual grant criteria below. Executive meeting dates will be made available on the website.
-
Members are encouraged to apply well in advance of the event they are wishing to attend, so they have certainty as to the outcome of the application prior to the event. Please note
-
Grant applications submitted restrospectively for an event will not be accepted.
-
Grant applications submitted in advance of the event will be reviewed by the Executive, even if the event has occurred prior to the Executive meeting.
-
-
If successful applicants do not use the full amount awarded, the unused balance cannot be put towards another event.
-
Unless otherwise specified, funding is awarded on the receipt of the following within 90 days of the event, or completion of the post-graduate paper/s:
-
A copy of the letter offering the grant
-
A report of the event and a recent photo of the recipient, that will be published in the newsletter (not applicable for PG grants)
-
An expenses claim form with supporting receipts (tax invoices) for appropriate expenses.
-
Applicants must be current NZHPA members when claiming reimbursement.
Important notes:
If successful, recipients of NZHPA grants will:
- Provide a written report that is suitable for publication in the NZHPA newsletter, plus a photo of themselves to the NZHPA Executive, within 90 days of completion of the activity associated with the award
- Consent to details of their grant being shared with other NZHPA members especially in relation to, but not limited to, requests to present at events, contribute to future resources and be available to be contacted by another member regarding the specific knowledge or skills gained.
-
Grant money is paid out retrospectively, after attendance at your conference/course/event on submission of an Expense Claim form, within 90 days of the last day of the conference/event, along with receipts (‘Tax Invoices”) for the appropriate expenses and provision of the written report.
The requirements of a grant may be modified by the Executive.
Guidance on preparing the Grant Report
- Aim for around 500 words.
- Include your name, a photo, your organisation and contact email.
- Briefly outline the purpose of your grant application and details of the conference attended/sites visited etc
- If applicable describe your involvement such as oral presentation, poster or workshop presented
- Provide webpage links to the conference programme, handbook etc where available
- Choose two to three sessions, themes or areas of practice that you feel stood out and would be most relevant or interesting to NZHPA members. Write about these in sufficient detail so members can learn something from your report.
- Acknowledge NZHPA and the grant sponsor as appropriate
